Event overview
Presented by the Centre for Contemporary Music, this seminar and performance will be on Balkan classical music
The renowned Bulgarian composer and pianist Krassimir Taskov will discuss Bulgarian classical music with some references to Rumanian music as well as other Balkan traditions. He will demonstrate and explain compositional approaches typical for these cultures and highlight the element of folk music and improvisation in it. He will also talk about the approaches and techniques used in his own music. The talk will be followed by a performance of one Bulgarian piece for solo piano and the “Song” from the ‘Bulgarian Suite’, op 21, by Pancho Vladigerov for violin and piano, where Professor Taskov will be joined by Devorina Gamalova.
Other pieces being performed tonight include "Ruines" from the cycle "Five Archaic Pictures" by Taskov, and "Dance" from "Five Miniatures" by Dimitar Nenov.
