Show me Edgware Road is a moving, funny and poignant look at the lives and experiences of Middle Eastern women exiled in London. Five leading female Middle Eastern artists, based in the UK, conspire to unveil the discord and harmony of mixing saffron and wine.
Starring:
Houda Echouafni - Born and raised in Morocco, Houda now lives in the UK and works as an actor. Her recent work includes Tim Supple's, One Thousand and One Nights, Farrah at Soho Theatre and 603 at the Royal Court directed by Rufus Norris.
Alia Alzougbi - Born in Lebanon, raised around the Middle East, now lives in the UK. Alia is an actress, dancer and storyteller. For the title role in the feature film Trouble Sleeping, Alia was awarded a BAFTA Scotland nomination and the Trailblazer award for New Talent at the Edinburgh International Film Festival 2008.
Directed by Rajha Shakiry – Born in Iraq, educated in the UK. Trained as a Theatre Designer and Scenographer, Rajha;s work has varied from designing Richard II, Palestine and the Globe, London, I Stand Corrected, Cape Town, London and Singapore, to performing with Improbable as a member of the Skills Ensemble in Philip Glass’s Satyagraha (English National Opera, London and The Metropolitan Opera, New York).
Show me Edgware Road is devised and developed in collaboration with Mojisola Adebayo, writer, director and dramaturge, with over 10 years experience of working in the Middle East. This project is also supported by Arti Prashar and SpareTyre, a theatre company who’s work enables voiceless individuals and communities to tell their stories and to challenge social prejudices.
A fusion of languages, sounds and visuals, this work-in progress will be followed by an informal Q&A discussion towards the next phase of the project.
