A collection of images exploring the way in which the history of executions and the identity of the victims killed during the Spanish Civil War (1936-39) are brought to light in the space of the exhumation.
Since the year 2000, members of different generations in Spain have searched for the human remains of the Republicans killed during the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) and the Franco regime. After decades of institutional silence around these deaths, activists and families have fought to have the mass graves excavated. This exhibition, part of a wider PhD project in Anthropology, explores the way in which the history of the executions and the identity of the victims are brought to light in the space of the exhumation. It explores how human and material traces interact with personal memories, official stories and new scientific interpretations to create new visions of an intimate and collective past.
