The EYAS works under the auspices of the English Schools' Orchestra Charity whose President is Lord Lingfield. Its main purpose is to extend the pathway from the ESO as player and mentor through to providing a platform for young professional musicians to perform and gain experience as they seek to develop their careers. The inaugural concert given in November 2014 was sponsored by the Performing Rights Society for Music, the TES and the Peter Ustinov Foundation. The performance included four new works by young composers who were finalists in the first PRS composing competition. The EYAS will be the resident orchestra for the composing project 2015/16 to be held at Goldsmiths, University of London, sponsored by the Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation and supported by the Lewisham Music Hub.
