Paul Cassidy studied as a Foundation Scholar at the Royal College of Music with Irina Zaritzskaya and Andrew Ball, graduating in 2001 as recipient of the Hopkinson Silver Medal for his performance in the RCM Chappell Medal Final.
Upon graduation from the RCM Paul studied philosophy at the University of Manchester and Kings’ College London, whilst maintaining a career as a freelance pianist and contemporary music. He has twice reached the semi-finals of the British Contemporary Piano Competition, and has given numerous premieres of new works, including the world premiere of Kevin Malone’s CountMe In for piano and electronics at the University of Manchester. Since 2008 Paul has been a member of the six-piano contemporary music ensemble Piano Circus and has performed extensively with the group across the UK, Europe and the United States. Paul is also an experienced Jazz pianist and performs regularly in a variety of venues in and around London.
Paul is currently in the third year of his PhD in Music Performance at Goldsmiths, where he has been working with Keith Potter and Andrew Zolinsky on his primary research and repertoire interest – American minimalist piano music.
Composer Roger Redgate studied conducting at the Royal College of Music with Edwin Roxburgh, specialising in contemporary repertoire.
He has worked with many of today’s leading composers including Clarence Barlow, Richard Barrett, James Dillon, Brian Ferneyhough, Michael Finnissy, Jonathan Harvey, Sam Hayden, and Kaija Saariaho.
He has been conductor and artistic director of Ensemble Exposé since 1984, with whom he has recorded CDs of music by Paul Archbold, Joe Cutler, Brian Ferneyhough, Michael Finnissy, Fabrice Fitch, David Gorton and Edwin Roxburgh. He has performed at many of todays leading festivals for new music and has broadcast for the BBC, Radio France, Hessische Rundfunks, RAI (Italy) and Swedish Radio.
