Come and celebrate the 80th birthday of La Monte Young (today!) in this free lunchtime concert by leading contemporary pianist, Paul Cassidy.
80 Years Young - A concert to include works by La Monte Young on his 80th birthday, plus music inspired by this Godfather of Minimalism.
Repertoire to include Young's Composition 1960 #7 and X for Henry Flynt, plus music by the Velvet Underground.

Paul Cassidy studied at the Royal College of Music with Irina Zaritzkaya and Andrew Ball, graduating in 2001 as recipient of the Hopkinson Silver Medal. Since graduation Paul has been active as a freelance pianist and contemporary music specialist, performing with the internationally renowned ensemble Piano Circus. He has twice reached the semi-finals of British Contemporary Piano Competition, and has given numerous premieres of new works, including the world premiere of Kevin Malone's Count Me In for piano and electronics at the University of Manchester. In 2007 Paul performed in the PLG Young Artists Concert Series at the Purcell Room, London, and later that same year he participated alongside Michael Nyman and Gavin Bryars in a complete performance of Erik Satie's epic Vexations at the Tate Modern, London.

Hosted by the Department of Music at Goldsmiths, this series of concerts gives students an opportunity to perform their work in the grand surroundings of Deptford Town Hall. The performance is open to all staff and students at Goldsmiths, as well as members of the public.
