Decoding the clocks - The interpretation of time in Salvatore Sciarrino’s 'L’orologio di Bergson' and Brian Ferneyhough’s 'Carceri d’Invenzione IIb'.
Artist, interpreter and researcher as in one, passionately keen on contemporary music, Matteo Cesari (Bologna, 1985) has played as a soloist worldwide, from Europe to China, from Australia to the United States. His musical career path has been enriched from Italy to the Conservatoire de Paris and at Université Paris IV (Sorbonne), where he obtained his doctoral degree with the highest honours (congratulations from the jury) in April 2015, specialising in interpretation-?research and practice, with his thesis on the interpretation of time in Salvatore Sciarrino’s 'L’orologio di Bergson' and Brian Ferneyhough’s 'Carceri d’Invenzione IIb'.
This talk will be followed by a drinks reception then a short concert in the Council Chamber, featuring works by Roger Redgate, James Erber, Salvatore Sciarrino and Pierluigi Billone.
About this series
The Music Research Series is designed to help postgraduate students advance their research and careers. The events stimulate exchange, hones skills, facilitates the creation of professional networks and helps to consolidate the department’s postgraduate community, all over a glass of wine! Attendance is strongly recommended for all postgraduate students (MA, MMus and PGR) in Music but of course undergraduates, music researchers, and visitors from across the college and the community are also most welcome to these public lectures.
