Event overview
Questions about who is a migrant are once more at the centre of political discussion and debate. This event organized by the Migration Research Network opens up such conversations to consider the work of the various definitions at play in contemporary discourses about migration. It focuses on the practices of exclusion and stigmatization that prevailing definitions of migrants reproduce, while also turning attention to the absent bodies, the mobile subjects who are not readily recognized as migrants.
The panel features academics and activists working on migration, to stimulate lively discussion on this topic. Confirmed speakers include Nooralhaq Nasimi (The Afghanistan and Central Asian Association), Nando Sigona (University of Birmingham), Hannah Jones (University of Warwick), Cami Rowe (Goldsmiths), Nirmal Puwar (Goldsmiths), and Matthew Hayes (St. Thomas University). The event is followed by a reception in the Migrating Dreams and Nightmares exhibition (http://bit.ly/20ZfXVG).
This event is open to the public, and free to attend. For any further information please contact michaela.benson@gold.ac.uk
