Julián Elvira, creator of the Pronomos microtonal, polyphonic flute, will give a talk on the development of the instrument and its new possibilities for composers.
The Contemporary Music Research Unit presents a lecture recital given by the renowned Spanish flautist Julián Elvira, whose Pronomos Flute is the product of an exhaustive 20-year investigation into flute acoustics and of the “Complex” system concieved by Is-tvan Matuz of Budapest. The aim of the Pronomos Flute is the achievement of a greater realization of the sonorous and timbral possibilities of the instrument, backed up by the mechanical changes and adaptions necessary to realize this whole new world of sounds.
Using the scientific and acoustic knowledge acquired from the “Complex” system of Matuz as basis of the Pronomos flute, the instrument developed by Julián Elvira offers us a broader perspective, permiting flutists and listeners to hear and experience the flute in yet newer ways.
