As part of the Department of Music's PureGold season, we present PhD Performance student Paul Cassidy with his '4 Ballad(e)s by Fred' recital programme, performing Ballades #1 & #2 by Frederic Chopin, and North American Ballads #3 & #4 by Frederic Rzewski.

Frederic Rzewski (1938 - ) - North American Ballad #3: 'Down By The Riverside'

Paul Cassidy studied at the Royal College of Music with Irina Zaritzkaya and Andrew Ball, graduating in 2001 as recipient of the Hopkinson Silver Medal. Since graduation Paul has been active as a freelance pianist and contemporary music specialist, performing with the internationally renowned ensemble Piano Circus.
He will also be leading the day-long performance of 'Vexations', in John Cage's historic 1963 multi-player staging of Eric Satie's epic repetitive work on 13 June and an all-Graham Fitkin programme on 15 June.
NB This is the rescheduled performance from 7 June.
