The Department of Music is thrilled to welcome composer, pianist and conductor Graham Fitkin to give today's masterclass prior to the evening concert.
Performance and Composition workshops with Graham Fitkin.
Graham Fitkin (b.1963) is a composer working from Cornwall. He has worked with musicians such as Yo-Yo Ma, Kathryn Stott, Will Gregory, Sacconi Quartet, BBC Orchestras, Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, NYCB etc. Although he is interested in immediacy in his music, he is concerned with clarity, time, pacing and finding interesting structures within music.
His compositions fall broadly into the minimalist and post-minimalist genres. Described by The Independent as "one of the most important of our younger composers", he is particularly known for his works for solo and multiple pianos, as well as for music accompanying dance.
Keyboards from 10am - 1pm
Composition from 2pm - 5pm
All are welcome to observe the classes but participation is for Music Department students only.
