Event overview
Visual Cultures Public Programme Summer 2016
Elke Marhöfer’s work focuses on the potentialities of moving images. Her film practice acknowledges the becoming of things, animals and vegetables, enfolding into the images as active participants rather than passive objects of inquiry.
This practice creates an awareness of the vitality of the inanimate as an ecological and connective force that suspends the anthropocentrism of life and instead offers a view on art as belonging to an expressive continuum.
With her work Marhöfer seeks to contribute to an inclusive and involved mode of perception and knowledge production. In her presentation Marhöfer will show the films prendas — ngangas — enquisos — machines (Cuba, 2014), Nobody knows, when it was made and why (England, 2012-15) and Shape Shifting (Japan, 2015), in which she explores facets of symbiotic and affective relations, seeking to understand how things as well as images come together, only in order to become different again.
Chair: Simon O’Sullivan
