Prayer room guidelines
Our guidance when using the prayer room on campus.

- If removing your shoes is part of your religious practice, please remove them in the lobby area and leave them on the racks provided
- Please ensure that any mobile devices are switched off or on silent mode
- Eating, drinking, and sleeping are not permitted within the Prayer Room
- Any social events and recreational activities are strictly not permitted in the Prayer Room
- Charitable collections that do not form part of an act of worship and have not been approved in advance by the Coordinating Chaplain should not occur in the Prayer Rooms. This is to ensure that a prayerful atmosphere is maintained
- Equally, individual societies and groups are requested to use alternative spaces for their activities or to prepare for activities
- Personal belongings, valuables and monies should not be left in the room. When found, these items will be logged as lost property and left with the Security Team
- Please do not fix anything to the walls
- Notices and posters should not be displayed without the permission of the Coordinating Chaplain. If permission is granted, all notices and posters must be in English
- Posters and religious literature may be displayed on the notice boards provided inside of the room with the permission of the Chaplaincy Team. Outdated notices, posters, leaflets or advertisements for events will be removed
- Please take care to keep the Prayer Room clean and tidy at all times. You are asked to return any furniture etc to its original location after use, and make sure that the room is clean and tidy when you leave
- Please do not bring alcohol into the Prayer Room at any time unless it is related to religious communal worship
- The lighting of candles or burning of incense contravenes the University’s health and safety policies and is, therefore, strictly forbidden
- Please respect other users and enter and leave the room quietly
- Religious scripture and artefacts used for worship and prayer may be kept in the storage provided. Please do not remove any of these from the rooms
- With the exception of sacred texts or with the express permission of the coordinating Chaplain (or nominated deputy), all books should be in English
- Inappropriate behaviour or behaviour which contravenes the Handbook of Student Regulations will not be tolerated and may lead to access being withdrawn and disciplinary action taken
- Several people can use the MF prayer room for individual prayers at the same time. For these activities, all room users will have to keep quiet keep silence and maintain an atmosphere of respect
- Any suggestions, complaints, or conflicts of use should be referred to the Chaplaincy at chaplaincy (@gold.ac.uk)
