Course description

Pipa is a four-stringed instrument somewhat similar to the lute used to play traditional Chinese music. The instrument is played by plucking.

The pipa was a very important instrument played to the emperor of China in the imperial court. The instrument can be played individual or as part of an orchestra for use in productions such as daqu (大曲, grand suites), an elaborate music and dance performance.

You will be provided with a pipa to practice with during class hours.

You will need to bring your own pipa fake nails (for 5 fingers) and tape.
