Next course
Course description
The zhongruan (中阮 zhōngruǎn; lit. 'tenor ruan'), is a Chinese plucked string instrument. It is usually played with a plectrum (guitar pick) but can also be played with fingers.
It is widely known as the Chinese ukelele due to similarities with the Western ukelele.
The zhongruan is a very ancient instrument that was used widely during the Tang Dynasty (almost 1000 years ago). The instrument can be played individual or as part of an orchestra for use in productions.
