Duncan Fairfax is the current Head of Department in Design. He is also an international research associate of the recently established design consultancy and think tank, “The Studio at the Edge of the World,” started by renowned design philosopher and sustainability theorist Professor Tony Fry. His principle areas of research and teaching cover the discourses of contemporary ecology, sustainability, environmental ethics, system and service design, innovation, leadership, and change management. His most recent work is focused on the development of a new, more ethically appropriate and responsible, understanding of the nature of the “praxis” of design, as it can be derived from contemporary sociological theories of practice, extended and embodied, or enactive theories of mind within contemporary neuroscience, and ontological theories of design.
