Media, Communications and Cultural Studies First in Family Fee Waivers

The Department of Media, Communications and Cultural Studies will be awarding a limited number of competitive 100% fee waivers for the academic session 2025 – 26 for students who are the first in their family to attend university and who demonstrate considerable academic potential.

100% fee waiver for home fee students or the equivalent amount in pounds sterling to international students.

Eligibility criteria

Students applying to the following MA programmes who are the first in their family to attend university (ie if neither of their parents/carers attended university) are eligible to apply for a limited number of 100% fee waivers:

Successful applicants will demonstrate signs of significant academic potential as indicated in particular by evidence of distinction and diligence in prior BA studies.

These MA fee-waivers will be made in addition to the Goldsmiths Excellence and Alumni fee-waivers.

How to apply

You must have already submitted an application to the relevant programme in order to apply for this fee waiver.  

Students applying for the fee waivers should also include two academic references. 

Your fee waiver application should be less than 500 words and: 

  • Confirm that neither of your parents/carers attended university 
  • Outline the grounds for your choice of MA programme  
  • Indicate how you expect your MA to help you achieve your intellectual, academic, or creative goals  
  • Make a strong case for your ability to complete the MA programme with excellent results. In making this case, you may want to expand on some aspects of your background, achievements and CV to date.

Selection process

The fee waiver awards will only be made where applications are judged to have met the criteria convincingly. They will be selected on a competitive basis by a panel of MCCS academic staff. A limited number of awards are available.  

 Please note that should you wish to defer your study, we cannot guarantee to carry over an award to the following year(s).
