In Night’s City
Eimear McBride - Dorothy Nelson, In Night's City (1982)
Despite its enthusiastic critical reception upon publication, in 1982, both In Night's City and its author Dorothy Nelson have unfortunately, and undeservedly, slipped from view. Filled with devoutly lyrical descriptions of unspeakable acts this is a book for neither the lazy nor the faint of heart, but for readers who take pleasure in language which engages at the deepest level its rewards are rich indeed. It would have been a worthy winner of the Goldsmiths Prize and I hope it will have its time again.
