Gillian Moore is a pioneer in integrating education and artistic practice, who was awarded an honorary fellowship from Goldsmiths in 2017.
Gillian Moore was born in Glasgow, and has worked to bring music and the arts to the London community for over 35 years.
Gillian was Education Officer at the London Sinfonietta for ten years before becoming Head of Education at the Southbank Centre in 1993, where she developed an approach that integrated educational and artistic activity.
Gillian was awarded an MBE for her services to British music in 1994, and returned as Artistic Director of the London Sinfonietta in 1998.
In 2006, she was appointed Head of Contemporary Culture at the Southbank Centre as, taking over the brief for Classical Music in 2011 and then taking up the role of Director of Music.
In autumn 2022, Gillian Moore CBE became the Southbank Centre’s Artistic Associate, where she develops new, large scale projects and collaborative initiatives that support music and creative engagement at the Southbank Centre, as well as create new music-focused digital content for the Southbank Centre’s digital channels.
Throughout her career, Gillian has remained committed to challenging inequity in the arts through initiatives such as the Southbank Centre's Women in Music programmes and establishing a close relationship with Chineke!, Europe's first majority black orchestra, who are now a Resident Orchestra at Southbank Centre.
