Sir Michael Marmot is a distinguished Professor of Epidemiology, who was made an honorary fellow of Goldsmiths in 2023.
Professor Sir Michael Marmot has been Professor of Epidemiology at University College London since 1985, and is Director of the UCL Institute of Health Equity.
He has led research groups on health inequalities for nearly 50 years, and led on ‘Build Back Fairer’, the report into inequalities in death rates due to Covid-19.
He has chaired the World Health Organisation (WHO) Commission on Social Determinants of Health, WHO Regional Commissions, and reviews on tackling health inequality for UK governments, and is former President of the British Medical Association and of the World Medical Association.
He was knighted in 2000 and appointed a Companion of Honour for services to public health in 2023.
