A leading decolonial thinker with an extensive number of publications, Walter D. Mignolo was awarded an honorary doctorate from Goldsmiths in 2018.
Walter D. Mignolo is a professor at Duke University in North Carolina, USA.
His work, grounded on semiotics, discourse analysis and literary theory has been devoted, over the last 30 years to understanding and unravelling the historical foundation of the modern/ colonial world system imaginary since 1500.
He is known for a set of decolonial concepts such as global geopolitics of knowledge, border-thinking and pluriversality. He has published extensively, with his most recent work Decolonial Politics, published by Duke Press in 2019.
Currently, Walter is director of the Center for Global Studies and the Humanities at Duke University. He was the senior advisor of the Dialogue of Civilizations Research Institute, based in Berlin in 2016 to 2020.
Walter D. Mignolo was awarded an honorary doctorate (DLit) by Goldsmiths in 2018.
