Art in the Archive: The Women’s Art Library/Feminist Review Bursary 2018
Thriving through everyday acts of resistance
In partnership with the Showroom and the 198 Gallery.
The Women’s Art Library and Feminist Review are pleased to announce the 2018 Bursary offering £1200 for a 3 month research residency in the Women’s Art Library, Special Collections and Archives, Goldsmiths, University of London. This call is open to all students, artists and curators.
The 2018 call for proposals is themed to highlight strategies that enable and sustain women artists’ practice. This follows the drop-in event co-organized with Tate in March 2017 inviting artists to contribute to a timeline mapping the mostly unrecorded social and political circumstances of their early training and careers. In this context “everyday acts of resistance” focuses on "the diversity of practical solutions for the here and now, and on the cooperation and creativity of everyone involved in a community or society”, as described by Nataša Petrešin-Bachelez in 2013. The Women’s Art Library collection began as a practical solution to the lack of visibility for women artists in the late 1970s. This call encourages submissions that explore these themes drawing on the WAL collection.
The output will include presenting the research in Feminist Review notably the FR Blog liaising with the Feminist Review Editorial Board, presentation events at the Showroom and 198 Gallery, and the production of a free publication funded by WAL/FR up to £200.
