Dr Akshi Kumar receives Florence R. Sabin Award

Dr Akshi Kumar in the School of Computing has been awarded a Florence R. Sabin Award for Research Excellence for 2025–2026.
The Florence R. Sabin Award for Research Excellence is one of the Honorary Membership Awards given by Graduate Women in Science (GWIS). Dr Kumar joins a distinguished group of awardees who have demonstrated excellence in research across different scientific fields.
I’m honoured to receive the Florence R. Sabin Award for research excellence 2025. This recognition is shared with all those who have shaped my journey, and it reiterates my belief that when the work speaks, recognition becomes a reflection of purpose, not just achievement.
Dr Akshi Kumar, Senior Lecturer, School of Computing
Dr Kumar is a senior lecturer in the School of Computing, with expertise in natural language processing (NLP) and artificial intelligence (AI). Her research focuses on NLP and AI in high-stakes areas such as health, education and finance.
GWIS, established in 1921 at Cornell University as Sigma Delta Epsilon, has championed the advancement of women in science for over a century. The award is named after Dr. Florence R. Sabin, a pioneering medical scientist, who was the first recipient of the GWIS Honorary Membership Award in 1926.
