BAFTA nominations for Goldsmiths alumni

Two Goldsmiths, University of London alumni have been shortlisted for the EE British Academy Film Awards 2017. BAFTA nominations were announced on 10 January 2017 by Dominic Cooper and Sophie Turner at BAFTA’s London headquarters.

Elena Ruscombe-King (BA Media and Modern Literature, 2013) has been nominated for A Love Story in the British Short Animation category.
Producer Jo-Jo Ellison (Certificate Media and Communications, 2004) is nominated for Notes on Blindness in two categories - Outstanding British Film and Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer – alongside writer/director/producer Peter Middleton and writer/director James Spinney.
The seven minute short, A Love Story, sees two creatures fall in love and weave a colourful world together. But when darkness threatens to consume one of them, the other must fight to stay together, or risk being torn apart. The film, directed by Anushka Kishani Naanayakkara and written by Ruscombe-King and Naanayakkara, previously received the Best Experimental Film Award at the Rhode Island International Film Festival 2016.
Notes on Blindness is a dramatisation of original recordings by writer and theologian John Hull, chronicling the world after losing his sight. A feature length version of the film has also been developed.
The EE British Academy Film Awards take place on Sunday 12 February at the Royal Albert Hall, London. The ceremony will be hosted by Stephen Fry and broadcast on BBC One.
