Goldsmiths, University of London has today announced a partnership with student accommodation specialists Campus Living Villages (CLV) to provide halls of residence.

The agreement will see CLV in charge of the day-to-day running of Chesterman House, Raymont Hall and Surrey House and Annexe from the beginning of the new academic year.

As part of the partnership the company is to undertake renovation works on the halls, with the refreshed accommodation providing new spaces in which students can live, study and socialise.

Students and their needs have driven the project from its very beginning, with student representatives sitting on the project’s steering group at all stages. The discussions also took place with the full involvement of Council and the UCU has been kept closely informed. All of these stakeholders will be integral to the ongoing partnership between Goldsmiths and CLV.

The scheme will deliver better value for money with more social learning spaces, improved accommodation, more rooms and a greater range of rents and living options to suit all budgets.

The partnership is also a cornerstone of our Estates Masterplan. The agreement will enable us to invest much more quickly in the development of its academic estate, including a landmark new academic building.

A bold gateway to our New Cross campus, the new building at 1 St James will enhance the student and staff experience by providing innovative new teaching spaces.

Liz Bromley, Goldsmiths Registrar and Secretary, said:

“We are delighted to be working with CLV, an industry leader with a proven track record in delivering outstanding student accommodation. The partnership will have a direct and material impact on the experience of students living, working and studying at Goldsmiths – and ensure we remain an exciting and affordable choice for students contemplating higher education in London.

“On a wider level, the agreement will unlock the potential of our campus by kick-starting our Estates Masterplan and help us to create a landmark academic building which will give us a new base from which we can continue to produce world-leading research and first-class teaching. This move represents an exciting new chapter for the university.”

Operating some 41,000 beds worldwide, CLV is a global leader in providing student accommodation.

Gary Clarke, Chief Executive Officer (UK), Campus Living Villages, said: “Our partnership with Goldsmiths reflects our commitment to redefining affordable and high-quality living conditions for students in the UK. This will be our third Student Village in London, and residents can expect CLV’s unique hallmarks: enhanced accommodation, round-the-clock security and support, greater comfort, increased technology and superior communal areas.”
