On Tuesday 27th January, Goldsmiths will mark Holocaust Memorial Day with its largest memorial service to date.
The ceremony – organised by the Goldsmiths Students' Union - will take place from 1-2pm in the Great Hall of the Richard Hoggart Building and is open to all staff, students and the public.
This year’s Holocaust Memorial Day coincides with the 70th anniversary of the liberation of the death camp Auschwitz-Birkenau, and is themed on “keeping the memory alive”.
A selection of poetry and memoirs will be read, along with traditional memorial prayers performed by a Cantor and choir, and addresses from students, staff, Goldsmiths’ chaplain and the Mayor of Lewisham, Steve Bullock.
Holocaust Memorial Day takes place on the 27th January each year in remembrance of the millions of people who were killed or had their lives changed beyond recognition during the Holocaust, Nazi persecution, and in subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.
