Goldsmiths in global top 50 for Media and Communications, Sociology, Art and Design

Art and Design subjects and Media and Communications at Goldsmiths, University of London have been ranked among the top 25 in the world and UK top five in the internationally-respected QS World University Rankings by Subject.

  • Art and Design at Goldsmiths is listed 12th globally and 4th in the UK  
  • Media and Communications is ranked 22nd in the world and 2nd in the UK
  • Sociology at Goldsmiths is rated 9th in the UK and 45th in the world
  • English and Comparative Literature scores highly, maintaining its global position in the 101-150th grouping for English language and literature subjects and ranking 25th in the UK
  • Politics appears in the 151st-200th bracket worldwide and is 30th in the UK

A world-leading reputation

This week, Art and Design was also listed by the Complete University Guide as 6th in the UK out of 80 universities offering the subject, a rise of six places in a year. 

Dr Richard Noble, Head of the Department of Art, adds: “Art at Goldsmiths has a world-leading reputation, with many graduates among the most recognised names in contemporary art. The Department pioneers new teaching and practice-based approaches and, with more than 750 staff and students from around the world, thrives on the diverse range of cultures it attracts.”

Our critical, creative and cutting edge Department of Design offers an internationally-reputed undergraduate honours degree, BA Design, and a range of distinctive postgraduate programmes. Over the past ten years we have had graduates go on to work for world class design agencies such as Heatherwick StudioDyson and Burberry, as well as setting up their own award-winning businesses such as Kin and UsCreates.

In the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF) Media and Communications at Goldsmiths was ranked top in the UK for ‘research intensity’ and third in the UK overall.
