Goldsmiths fixes fees for EU students and guarantees global student and staff mobility

Fees for students from European Union countries are being fixed at the same level as those for Home students for three years, Goldsmiths, University of London has announced.

Course charges will be held at the same rate as those for Home students up to and including the academic year 2018-2019. Details of fees are found on this page. 

All universities including Goldsmiths are awaiting further clarification from the Student Loans Company regarding EU nationals' entitlement regarding student loans.

But Goldsmiths has pledged to continue to fund student and staff mobility across the globe for the next three years amid uncertainty in higher education over funding for schemes like Erasmus+.

The financial commitments show Goldsmiths’ commitment to welcoming EU and international students following the leave vote in the referendum on Britain’s membership of the EU.

Warden of Goldsmiths Patrick Loughrey said: “Goldsmiths is renowned for building bridges across the world. We want to show everyone that this is still very much the case.

“The result in the EU referendum was not the one we had hoped for – but we are determined to ensure that Goldsmiths remains a place which everyone can call home.

“We want students to come here from across the globe and experience the inclusive and unique culture of this university. These students will also fuel the diverse spirit of Goldsmiths – and help bring the wider world to the UK.

The Goldsmiths funding announcements came as it was confirmed that students from the EU starting university courses in the UK this autumn will have their student loans funding honoured.

Those EU students who are already attending UK universities will continue to receive financial support.

The Student Loans Company made the announcement as it sought to reassure students and applicants following last week’s vote.

Universities minister Jo Johnson said: "UK welcomes EU students.

"Current students and this autumn's applicants will continue to receive student finance for duration of their course," said the Twitter message from the minister.
