Goldsmiths appoints new Registrar and Secretary

Goldsmiths, University of London has appointed Helen Watson as its new Registrar and Secretary, with responsibility for the university’s professional services and governance.
The former Director of Planning at the University of Oxford joins Goldsmiths in February.
Helen studied Music at Exeter College and completed her MA in Higher and Professional Education at the Institute of Education. Prior to Oxford she held posts at City University and at Imperial College.
Commenting on her appointment, Helen said: “I’m really excited to join an organisation internationally famed for its creativity and progressive thinking. The vibrancy of [Goldsmiths’] students and staff and the sense of shared values is so evident on your campus and in all you do. I’m looking forward to joining your community, and contributing to your future success at this pivotal time in higher education.”
Helen has been appointed through a rigorous selection process, including an interview panel chaired by the Warden Patrick Loughrey, with President of the Students’ Union Danny Nasr, Head of History Vivienne Richmond and Chair of Council Estelle Morris as well as Director of Finance Ian Pleace and Elisabeth Hill, Pro Warden Learning, Teaching, Enhancement.
The Warden says: “Helen will bring extensive experience of the sector to continue to build and shape our professional services, to ensure we are well placed to respond to the many changes at foot within the sector.
“In particular, her experience of the collegiate system at Oxford means she is well placed to appreciate the importance of building a framework which allows for consistency in approach while enhancing the distinctiveness of our diverse disciplines."
