Computing partners with innovative AI art award

Goldsmiths’ Department of Computing is partnering with a pioneering art award which explores the links between contemporary creative practice and artificial intelligence.

The SOLO AI AWARD is a global competition which focuses on digital and new media art using Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning as an active collaborative tool.
Now in its second year, the award is partnering with Goldsmiths’ Department of Computing, which has a focus on digital creativity and innovative approaches to AI and Machine Learning within artistic practice.
Goldsmiths will host the prize’s award ceremony on 10 May, where the winner will be chosen from a shortlist of 10 by an internationally renowned jury and the day will also see a symposium held on campus which will include an exhibition of works by students from the College as well as keynote talks by experts in the field of Creative AI. Additional partners include Google Arts & Culture.
The €10,000 award is funded and run by Colección SOLO, an international public arts collection based in Madrid which aims to foster, support and share the artwork of today’s emergent fine artists. The collection and the connected Espacio SOLO Museums were founded by the Spanish entrepreneurs Ana Gervás and David Cantolla.
With a background in technology, creative industries and fine arts collaborations, Colección SOLO explores the diverse connections that exist between different creative, cultural and aesthetic tendencies around the world. Colección SOLO is supports, drives and accompanies contemporary artistic creation. It holds over 900 works, including painting, sculpture, new media, sound art and AI driven practices.
This is a rare and exciting opportunity for Goldsmiths to invite active critical debate around creative practices engaged with AI and storytelling across global communities. Partnering with Coleccion Solo enables our department to continue to champion and innovate across creative AI & Machine Learning ecologies and locate us as a leader in the field of this evolving area of research and practice.

The call for entries is open until 24 February with submissions made through the SOLO AI AWARD website.
