Every day our students, staff and alumni are involved in amazing things. This week we're focusing on their contribution to the music scene in our pick of seven things to do in the coming week.

Watch: Blur sing with Jimmy Fallon

You can't have missed that britpop sensation Blur, who met and played their first gig here, are releasing their first full-length album in 16 years. In their recent appearance on 'The Tonight Show' they played a backstage gig with presenter Jimmy Fallon. If you can't get enough of 'Tender' book tickets to their world tour.

Learn: about Europe's earliest girl band

The annual London Festival of Baroque Music kicks off this weekend and Dr Berta Joncus, Head of our Department of Music is giving the keynote speech. Students can attend any concert for £5, and Berta's talk is free. If you can't make it, listen to her appearance on BBC Woman's Hour earlier this week.

Celebrate: experimental music at Birthdays

Alumnus Semi Precious, who has been described by the Guardian as 'subtly dislocating beauty',will be performing at Birthdays in East London, along with Gabi and DJ Daisy Jones. Entrance is free - and so is their soundcloud page.

Debate: the future of music and technology

As part of the Southbank Centre's Web We Want series, musician Gwylim Gold and producer Lexxx will talk about Gwylim's remarkable debut album BRONZE - which was delivered in the form of an app that plays a different version of his tracks with each press of the play button. Mick Grierson from our Department of Computing joins to discuss its impact on music. Immerse: yourself in opera


Shortlisted for the Young Composers Award 2015, 3rd year BMus student Robin Haigh will be debuting his new opera ‘The Man who Woke Up’ this Saturday. The piece will be performed by the Goldsmiths Chamber Orchestra in our Deptford Town Hall.

Stream: NX records new mixtape

Our PureGold launch last week saw the release of NX Records 2015 mixtape. The tape, mixed by Bunki, is now available to stream or download at DIY magazine. NX Records, which is an independent record label co-run by Matthew Herbert and Goldsmiths music students, hosts regular events, releases mixtapes and organises pop up stores. Find out more about their work.
