Every day our students, staff and alumni are involved in amazing things.
From live music to lectures, and plays to poetry slams, there are countless ways that you can experience what makes Goldsmiths special and celebrate the achievements of our community, and the excitement of our local area. Here's our pick of seven things to do in the coming week.
Plant: Sunflowers in New Cross

For the third year running the New Cross Sunflower Project is planting sunflowers to brighten our streets and create a habitat for bees and birds in the area. To plant and maintain the 1,000 flowers they're looking for volunteers and there are various ways you can get involved.
Wear: A Victorian cycle outfit
As part of the next Science Museum Lates, Goldsmiths lecturer Dr Kat Jungnickel will be presenting her project on the creative women’s cycle wear before Lycra. Kat will be telling cycling, sewing and suffragette stories from her ESRC funded research project and inviting people to try on some of the costumes.

Zoe Adjonyoh, who studied MA Creative Writing at Goldsmiths, has brought her Ghana Kitchen to South London in hope to familiarise diners with African cuisine. In the Evening Standard she explains how she has 'remodelled and refined' traditional dishes including nkatenkwan and jollof. Well worth a try!
Go: On a Bear Hunt
Poet, children's author and Goldsmiths lecturer Michael Rosen has teamed up with Children's Story Centre Discover in Stratford for an interactive exhibition called 'Bear Hunt, Chocolate Cake and Bad Things'. Paying tribute to the award-winning picture book (which you can enjoy in the video above) the exhibition will feature hidden rooms where clues can be found that reveal the inspiration behind Michael’s writing. It opens in October and will tour next summer, but bookings are already open.
Bring: All your friends to New Cross + Deptford Film Festival
The 2015 New Cross + Deptford Film Festival launches tonight. Completely free and run by volunteers, there'll be a range of screenings in the local area including Guardians of the Galaxy - powered by bikes! And on 29 April Dr Kate Devlin from our Department of Computing is introducing STRANGE DAYS, giving the sci-fact behind the sci-fi of a technology that records dreams..
Learn: How your brain really works
Brains are not a no-brainer! Together with eight leading organisations in the field of brain research, Dr Ashok Jansari, Lecturer in our Department of Psychology is hosting an event to increase awareness of the brain. If you can't make it on the night, Dr Jansari's top five facts about the brain might do.
Hear: The best new poetry at Goldsmiths
Following up from their sold-out event at the Peckham Pelican, Lit-Live returns for a night of poetry extravaganza. On May 8 Goldsmiths Writers' Centre presents Karen McCarthy Woolf, Sam Riviere, Malika Booker, Samantha Waltonand and a selection of readings from current Goldsmiths students and alumni. Book here.
