Connected Curriculum

The Connected Curriculum is a series of cross-departmental modules which aim to provide a broad academic context. They provide you with the opportunity to experience the best of Goldsmiths.

The four Connected Curriculum modules have been designed with our staff and students. Bringing together different disciplines, the modules will equip you to transition into higher education. You'll be given time and support to plan your academic development and can use what you learn as the first steps towards an exciting academic experience and career.

What you'll study

The Connected Curriculum modules available are dependent on your undergraduate programme choice*. If your programme is participating in the Connected Curriculum these modules will be used to support your entry, achievement and development at Goldsmiths. By the time you arrive in your final year you'll have as much choice as possible to allow you to tailor your degree.

The Connected Curriculum aims to:

  • Help you develop academic skills which are relevant to your specific subject
  • Provide you with a greater knowledge of contemporary and current affairs
  • Enable access to different subject areas to broaden your learning experience
  • Allow you to work on social change projects of your choice

Pre-arrival (online learning)

Transitioning to higher education is a challenge for everyone and we want to help you navigate your way around a new institution. We'll introduce you to how the different parts of Goldsmiths work together, where to go for support, how to access information, what learning materials you'll need and provide advice. At the end of this module, you'll be set up for success as soon as you arrive on campus. The module features information videos and a series of tasks and reflective exercises for you to complete.

Connected Curriculum year 1 – Identity, Agency & Environment 1 and 2

If these modules are available on your chosen course, they will be delivered between your department and our Centre for Academic Language and Literacies (CALL). Learning will be a mixture of face-to-face lectures and seminars.

These modules are designed to allow you to understand your own identity and how this has been constructed, enabling you to take agency over your learning and development and understand how the environment around you is changing and developing.

Both modules will act as building blocks to help you make the most of your time at Goldsmiths academically, and socially and allow you to begin planning your learning and career development.

Full module information can be found on the programme pages of participating courses. Visit the Course Finder to see which modules are available on your course.

Connected Curriculum year 2 – The Goldsmiths' Elective

Our academic departments are developing exciting elective ideas to allow you to broaden your education, this could be via vocationally-orientated experiences or learning opportunities surrounding contemporary society, culture and politics. Depending on your programme and which elective you choose you'll have the chance to get to know students from different disciplines. For example, you may want to find out more about studying law or learn to think like a designer.

Connected Curriculum year 2 – Goldsmiths' Project, 'London is Our Classroom'

Some of our programmes will be offering the chance to participate in the Goldsmiths' Project module. The 'London is Our Classroom' project will allow you to work on a group project with students from other departments to bring about positive societal change. Your work will introduce you to the key principles of working in a team and help you to learn project management skills.
