Outside of the Canon: curating verbo-visual and performative poetry
The thesis will address curatorial strategies and challenges for translating, archiving, mediating, and exhibiting performative poetry in the context of contemporary visual arts, using the work of the Italian artist and poet Tomaso Binga (b. 1931), whose oeuvre is overlooked in the international context.
Employing Binga’s multidisciplinary poetical practice as a curatorial catalyst, the thesis will explore methodologies for curatorial disruption of the canon, museum practice, disciplinary formations, and the archive.
