Goldsmiths has significantly impacted who I am today, instilling a passion for storytelling and a strong work ethic.
A transformative experience
My time at Goldsmiths from 2014 to 2017 studying BA Journalism was truly transformative. The most rewarding aspect of my degree was the support from my tutors and lecturers, who were not only knowledgeable but also incredibly encouraging.
Their insights greatly enriched my learning experience. I also loved spending time in the library, which became a second home for me—an ideal place to dive deep into research and writing.
Professional and personal growth
Goldsmiths has significantly impacted who I am today, instilling a passion for storytelling and a strong work ethic. The experience opened my eyes to the world of media, and I feel more equipped to face future challenges. Overall, my time there was not just about academic growth but also personal development, and I cherish those years immensely.
Life in London
Living in London while studying was an adventure in itself. The vibrant culture and diverse opportunities shaped my perspective and professional skills.
I continued to work in the city for several years after graduation, which helped me build a solid foundation in journalism. However, returning to Wales to work remotely has been a perfect fit for my little family and me.
Life beyond Goldsmiths
Currently, I’m a news editor and freelance journalist, along with working as a public relations executive. Balancing these roles while being a mum of two keeps me busy, but I genuinely enjoy the variety each day brings. The dynamic nature of journalism allows me to stay engaged with current events, while my work in public relations lets me connect with different audiences and craft compelling narratives.
Looking ahead, I see myself continuing to grow in these fields, possibly exploring more leadership opportunities in media. I aim to create a fulfilling balance between my career and family life, ensuring I can nurture both my professional ambitions and my role as a parent. The future feels bright, and I’m excited about the possibilities that lie ahead!
Embracing opportunities
My key piece of advice for anyone considering Goldsmiths or university in general is to prioritise gaining as much work experience as possible. Engaging in internships and placements while studying can significantly enhance your learning and career opportunities.
By fully committing to these experiences and giving your best effort, you'll not only build valuable skills but also create connections that can open many doors in the future. Embrace every opportunity that comes your way; it can make a world of difference in your professional journey.
