Developing a critical mindset
The BA Social Science, Community Development & Youth Work course was so important to me as it helped me to develop a critical mindset and encouraged me to start to challenge injustices in everyday life.
My favourite part of the degree was the group work - this was such a vital learning opportunity that taught me so much about dynamics and conflict.
Our cohort of students had a massive mix of ages, heritage and backgrounds that helped us to understand and reflect some of our own biases and misunderstandings. I’m eternally grateful for my opportunity at Goldsmiths.
Life after Goldsmiths
I am now a full-time youth worker working for a county council. In this role, I am able to support junior colleagues, young people and their families.
You really get a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction when you support a family through a tough time or engage with someone who no one else has been able to engage with.
I am also working towards a Masters in psychology.
Making friends for life
I really enjoyed my time at Goldsmiths and made some friends for life.
Meeting my uni mates for food in the student union was one of my favourite times. We would talk about our lives, the lectures and everything in between.
This time together really made us bond.
Advice for future students
Be open to learning and exploring new things. We do not know everything and every day will teach you something new.
University is a great way of challenging your mindset but also learning about others’ experiences.
