A supportive environment

Pursuing my PhD in Visual Culture at Goldsmiths was one of the most rewarding experiences of my career. The best aspect of my PhD was the freedom to develop a very specific and complex research project with the full support of my supervisors and the Department of Visual Cultures.

The department fosters a supportive and stimulating environment that nurtures individual research and, more importantly, encourages a sense of intellectual community and collaboration. 

I am especially grateful for being awarded the PhD Fee-Waiver Bursary, without which I would not have been able to conduct my research. In addition to my PhD, the department supported my academic career, allowing me to develop my teaching experience as an Associate Lecturer.

An impactful experience

Goldsmiths is a unique and vital place for the arts and humanities—a space for critical thought, dialogue, and experimentation, which today feels more necessary than ever. My time here has been profoundly meaningful, and Goldsmiths will always hold a special place for me.

A creative and cultural place

Before I studied at Goldsmiths, New Cross was not a part of London I had visited. During my PhD, I discovered the area’s history, significance, and the fantastic cultural and artistic spaces and events it offers.

There’s always something happening, so it’s easy to feel connected to artistic and cultural movements. The area's energy makes it the perfect place for Goldsmiths’ students.

Advice for future students

Goldsmiths offers an incredible range of courses and opportunities, so you can challenge yourself and embrace new ways of thinking and creating with others.

There are many spaces and events to engage with intellectual and creative communities. Beyond lectures and seminars, there’s a vibrant network of activities in and around campus that can enrich your experience, so you can take advantage of everything Goldsmiths has to offer.
