How to apply for a postgraduate research degree

Primary page content

You can apply directly to Goldsmiths via the website by clicking the ‘apply now’ button on the programme page of the course you’re interested in.

Some programmes have particular application procedures, so always check the programme listing for any specific requirements.

Personal statement

As part of your application, you will be asked to upload a personal statement. This is your chance to differentiate yourself from the other applicants applying for your programme, and to describe why we should offer you a place to study with us.

Read our guidance on writing your personal statement.

Applying for an MPhil or PhD

If you’re applying for an MPhil/PhD you should get in touch with the programme contact or academic department in which you’d like to study before you submit your application. You'll find their contact details on the relevant programme page. It may also be possible to arrange an advisory meeting with your preferred supervisor.

Research proposals

If you’re considering applying to do an MPhil and/or PhD, you’ll need to write a research proposal. The prospect of writing a proposal can be daunting, and although it may take some time, it doesn’t have to be complicated.
