Postgraduate entry requirements
We ask for certain qualifications that meet Goldsmiths' general entry requirements for postgraduate degrees - these are outlined below.
Primary page content
In addition to the minimum entrance requirements, some of our programmes have specific entry requirements that need to be met before you can be considered for entry. Please check the relevant course page to check if your programme is one of these.
If your degree is in an unrelated field, you may also be considered, subject to a qualifying examination. You might also be considered for some programmes if you aren’t a graduate, but have relevant experience and can show that you have the ability to work at postgraduate level.
Our minimum entry requirements are:
Masters degrees, and Postgraduate Diplomas and Certificates
You should normally have (or expect to be awarded) an undergraduate degree of at least second class standard in a relevant subject.
Some of our masters degrees also require you to fulfil our fitness to train requirements.
MRes programmes
You should normally have (or expect to be awarded) an undergraduate degree of at least upper second class standard.
MPhil/PhD programmes
You should normally have (or expect to be awarded) a taught Masters in a relevant subject area.
PGCE programmes
Please visit our PGCE entry requirements page for more information on specific requirements. A list of GCSE equivalencies is also available.
International entrance requirements
English language requirements
If English isn’t your first language, you will need to meet our English language requirements to study with us. These are listed on our programme pages. Your English language qualifications should be less than two years old at the time you start your studies with us.
Usually, we ask for IELTS because it shows us which areas of your English might need to be improved. However, we also accept a range of other English language qualifications.
If you need additional help to reach our English language requirements then we offer courses which can help. These include Pre-sessional English Language courses, to improve your standard of English in time for your main course of study with us. We also offer International Pathways, which can help prepare you for degree-level study at Goldsmiths or another UK institution.
International qualifications
We accept a wide range of qualifications from across the world. If you're unsure as to whether we accept your qualification, please contact the Admissions Office - admissions@gold.ac.uk.
