Two filmed movement pieces from one of our students
The use of dance and movement as a reflective tool is core to the training in Dance Movement Psychotherapy. The filmed movement response is just one way that students develop this skill.
Here are two of Gema's filmed movement responses, alongside a description that explains each piece.
"Sadness and support have been my companions on this journey working with depression. Due to overwhelming material, I had to create my ritual to feel ready. I touched the walls to transfer their strength and containment to my body. The vital support received in my placement and supervision became the wall where I could lean on during this experience.
This support allowed my therapist to grow, to be able to meet my clients and look at their eyes. And for the first time, I invited someone to my movement response. I wonder if it is because I have experienced the importance of working as part of a team."
"This year I decided to record my movement response before starting to write this paper. I chose nature as a healing place. Looking at me, I see my darkness, and the fear of being stuck there. I am still uncomfortable seeing myself awakening the demons that used to sleep. I also see how movement brings me to the light side of the coin, as a kind of resolution; different qualities in the same body, finding it’s own way to move from one place to the other. Balance, the key is the balance. I wonder if I am balanced enough to be ready to walk alone."
