An academic hub
The Migrant Futures Institute is a pioneering academic hub dedicated to reshaping the discourse and practices surrounding migration.
Situated within the diverse academic environment of Goldsmiths and growing out of an established international network of researchers, creatives and community leaders, our ambition is to be at the forefront of innovative research and training in the field of migration studies.
Challenging approaches to migration
The Migrant Futures Institute will challenge conventional approaches to migration by integrating art, creative practices, and community engagement into our research methodologies.
Unlike conventional migration studies, which often focus solely on policy development through legal and social scientific lenses, we embrace a multidisciplinary approach that acknowledges the complexities and nuances of migration experiences and foregrounds migrant intellectual lives and creative endeavours.
Academic excellence and social justice
Drawing upon Goldsmiths' rich legacy of academic excellence and social justice, the institute will serve as a dynamic space for critical inquiry and collaboration.
We aim to work closely both with people with migrant and refugee backgrounds and in communities of welcome to amplify diverse voices, challenge dominant narratives, and foster deeper understandings of migration, citizenship, and belonging.
Mission to engage
The institute’s mission will extend beyond academia to actively engage with civil society, both locally and globally, to effect positive change.
Through research, enterprise and creative practice, we will provide a platform for people to critically engage with migration issues, challenge existing paradigms, and envision migrant futures filled with hope, resilience, and dignity.
