This area of specialism focuses on matters associated with the care and protection of children, young people and adults, with a particular concern about child protection. The area includes work about Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE), Intimate Partner Violence (IPV), Domestic Violence and Abuse (DVA), family breakdown, and financial abuse.
Staff members in this area have explored areas of abuse and exploitation in relation to personal and protected characteristics, as well. Examples of this include minoritized groups and specifically on the grounds of sexual and gender diversity, disability, ethnicity, and religion and belief. Furthermore, this area has facilitated international work focusing on CSE and youth work providing educational and practice materials.

Protect Project
An Erasmus+ research project promoting the understanding of child sexual exploitation (CSE) and providing youth workers with training materials which will better equip them to work with CSE and related and overlapping issues such as criminal exploitation, across four nations.
Men’s experience of intimate-partner violence during and post Covid-19
In collaboration with Respect, the project aims to explore the new forms of coercive controlling behaviours being experienced by male victims of intimate partner violence (IPV) during and post Covid-19 pandemic. It also aims to evaluate if the support and services received by the male victims are intersectional.
