Cleaning
The cleaning team provide cleaning services in the communal areas outside the flats and in the common rooms.
The day-to-day cleaning inside the residence and the disposal of rubbish into communal waste bins is the responsibility of the residents living in the flats or corridors.
Cleaning team responsibilities
Communal areas
The cleaning team operates from 9am - 1pm Monday - Friday to keep the communal spaces and the kitchens of the halls clean and decluttered.
Every flat has their own schedule which is displayed in the notice board of every kitchen. On the designated day, the cleaning team will clean the communal areas, which include kitchens, flat corridors, block landings, entrances, and stairs. In the kitchens, they will only clean the floors and surfaces.
Before your schedule cleaning, ensure that surfaces and floors are clear so the cleaning team can work effectively. If communal areas are too cluttered for cleaning, the residents will be notified to tidy up before the next scheduled cleaning.
Residents' responsibilities
General cleaning
Residents are collectively responsible for maintaining all shared living spaces, including the cleanliness of the kitchen utensils, appliances, and equipment such as ovens, hobs, extractor hoods, fridges, and freezers.
Residents are solely responsible for cleaning their own bedrooms and bathrooms.
Rubbish disposal
Residents must bag and dispose of rubbish in the communal waste bins. If rubbish is left in the kitchen after an inspection, all residents in the flat may share the cost of its removal.
End-of-agreement cleaning
Before moving out, residents are expected to clean their bedrooms and communal areas. Inspections will be conducted after residents move out and if additional cleaning is needed the cost will be charged to the residents responsible. Additional details can be found in the Departure Booklet.
Flat inspections
Inspections of bedrooms, kitchens, and communal areas will take place regularly. At least seven days' notice will be given for bedroom inspections.
In cases where the levels of cleanliness are not acceptable, residents will be informed of required improvements and given a re-inspection date. If they fail to meet the standards by the specified time, or if cleanliness issues persist, a deep cleaning service may be arranged, and the associated cost might be passed on to the responsible residents.
Residents will be notified of the date and time when a deep clean service is organised.
Cleaning during weekends, Bank Holidays, and College closure days
The cleaning team does not provide services during weekends, Bank Holidays, and college closure days. During these times, it is the responsibility of the students to keep the communal areas clean and tidy.
Laundry
All halls have access to coin or phone operated laundry facilities.
Under no circumstances should clothes be washed in bathrooms or bedrooms. Washing must never be dried on the radiators, hung up outside windows or within the laundrette. For information about access and services, please contact your accommodation provider.
