Finding a placement

You can apply for funding to complete a work, volunteer, or study abroad placement in the year after graduating.

Find a placement that suits you and meets the following criteria:

  • The placement must be hosted by an organisation
  • It should include a structured programme of activity
  • You must demonstrate how it is relevant to your future career or further study plans
  • The placement has to take place outside of the UK and can be anywhere in the world
  • Must be for at least one month (up to three)

Common placements include international volunteering, teaching abroad, language courses, summer schools, training courses, or completing work experience.

Who can apply

Students who graduated in summer 2025 and winter 2025 can apply for this funding. We will prioritise students who have not received Goldsmiths funding before.

Your chosen placement must be at least one month long (and no longer than three) and must fall between 14 October 2024 and 31 August 2025.

How to apply

Applications will open 14 October 2024.

Applications will be considered on a rolling basis. You can expect an outcome within 10 days of applying. All applications will be considered by a panel.

The panel will consider:

  • Eligibility of the placement (does it meet the criteria at the top of the page and does it fall within the dates)
  • Motivation for the visit and relevance to your future studies/career

If you are selected, you will have to complete a series of paperwork to secure the funding. The Global Opportunities team will lead you through this.

Please ensure you complete your application with enough time to complete paperwork and receive funding before you go.

Funding

Once your application is approved you will be asked to sign a grant agreement to receive your funding. This document confirms the total grant, dates of the mobility, and payment terms. You will receive 80% of the grant before your placement and the remaining 20% upon completion of your placement and of all paperwork.

If your funding application is successful, you will be notified and informed of the specific funding amount you will receive.

Additional funding under the Turing Scheme

The Turing Scheme has additional funds available for students from a disadvantaged background.
