Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council grant

In 2006, the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council awarded the college a grant under its Science Fellow in the Arts programe to host Dr. Mandayam Srinivasan, the Director of the Touch Lab, MIT, as a visiting fellow to work on Haptic Technology at the Constance Howard Gallery. Dr Srinivasan is a world leader in the area of human and machine touch. His pioneering research over the past 20 years on the science and technology underlying information acquisition and object manipulation through touch has played a pivotal role in the emergence of the new and exciting field of Haptics.

His work with the Goldsmiths Textile Collection was carried out in conjunction with the Digital Studios here at the college and at BT Exact in Ipswich.
