Online shopping guide
Goldsmiths alumna Issy Gosse shares some of the best options for shopping online.
Primary page content
Sometimes ordering in is better than shopping out. There are loads of shops and businesses that now offer online services, some with click and collect from the store or a local collection point, and some with delivery straight to your door, so you don’t have to visit in person.
Here are just some of the best sites to use as a student.
IKEA
If you can’t make it to the Greenwich IKEA, you can now order any home essentials straight to your door. IKEA is the perfect place for home accessories, storage and other bits and bobs you might need, and all within an affordable price range. Delivery costs can be expensive, however, so it might be worth doing a joint shop with your flatmates to keep the price down.
Amazon
Amazon is a great online marketplace that caters for pretty much all of your needs. As a student, you can access Amazon Prime for free for six months, and then from only £4.49 a month. Prime gives you access to exclusive Amazon deals, as well as same day or next day delivery. Prime delivery can be a lifesaver as a student, and as a bonus you even get Prime Video included in your membership!
Grocery shopping
There are a number of food shops that now offer delivery options, so you can order all your food straight to your door. Options include Sainsbury’s, Asda, Iceland, Tesco, Waitrose, Morrisons, Ocado and Amazon Pantry. Some offer monthly passes to help keep delivery charges down.
UniDays and Student Beans
UniDays and Student Beans are two brilliant sites to sign up to when you’re a student. With no sign-up fee, both give you access to huge student discounts on food, fashion, tech, beauty and more. Student Beans and UniDays are an absolute must-have for discounts on all your online shopping.
Depop
For second-hand clothes that are just as good as new, Depop is a great app. Not only can you update your wardrobe, but you can also sell some of your old clothes and shoes to make yourself a little cash – all while being sustainable and friendly to the planet.
Argos
Argos is another great site for affordable home accessories, technology and other useful items. The big Sainsbury’s at New Cross has an option so you can click and collect in-store, or you can arrange delivery to your home.
Local businesses
There are plenty of local independent businesses in south east London that also offer online delivery. Ones that are local to Goldsmiths include The Word Bookshop for all your reading needs, and Forest if you’re a plant lover. Make sure you check out the websites of local stores when you’ve moved in!
