If this is your first time living away from home, you may find yourself stocking up on things for your flat and room that you may not have thought about before. These lists will give you a good basic starting point for deciding what to bring to university.

What to bring with you

These are the things you’ll likely need straight away, and that you might want to bring with you to Goldsmiths. 

Bedroom

  • Duvet and pillows
  • Duvet covers, pillowcases, bedsheets (two of each)

Clothes

  • Everyday clothes (warm and cold weather)
  • Light raincoat
  • Trainers
  • Set of smart clothes
  • Laundry basket/bag
  • Pyjamas
  • Slippers/flipflops

Bathroom

  • Two towels
  • Hairdryer

Kitchen

  • Two plates
  • Two mugs
  • Cutlery
  • Two glasses
  • A good cookbook

Electronics

  • Laptop and charger

Stationary

  • Bring the minimum you think you might need straight away, then buy the rest here

Documents

  • Passport
  • Driving license
  • A bill or bank statement (to use as proof of address)

Other

  • Backpack or day bag
  • Umbrella
  • Reusable water bottle
  • First aid kit
  • Medications (prescriptions and things like painkillers and flu medicine)
  • Playing cards/board games
  • A couple of memory sticks
  • Photos and other things to remind you of home!

These are the things you can get away with buying here. Have a chat with your new flatmates to see if they’d like to split the cost of certain things, like bigger kitchen items.
