Arthur Cefai studied Fine Art at Brighton. He then moved to Paris and practiced as an artist for a number of years. His work was exhibited at the Galerie Michel Rein, as well as in various high profile group exhibitions and has been collected by both national and regional collections.
In his Fine Art practice he critically investigated the physical process of making marks on canvas through automating the act of painting. His design work has grown out of this experience of working as an artist and developing systems and appliances to generate paintings. MA Design Critical Practice has provided a platform to help validate and incorporate methodologies he used as an artist within a design context.
Projects previously carried out on the course have engaged with carnival and the dual position of spectator and performer, as well as using everyday objects within a ‘future-memory' encoding system.
