In my final project I am exploring Mimesis and our desire to assimilate with our environment; the compulsion to return to the familiar, or, when there is nothing familiar to be found, to familiarise ourselves with the unfamiliar. The constant adaptation to our surroundings is an ongoing process and I am interested in the role design and aesthetics can play as a form of mediation between individuals and their environment.
The condition of Mimesis is not a static entity, it involves a constant shuttling between the state of being connected and the state of being distinct from the environment.
The observation of this reciprocal mechanism or ‘journey' between the two states has concluded in a series of artifacts designed to communicate the core concepts within Mimesis and illustrate our human desire to assimilate with our surroundings.
